FAQ

How does tuning work?

Each vehicle these days has a "brain" or computer controlling all of the engines activities, such as telling the engine how much fuel to use, when to fire the spark plugs, and when to shift the transmission. We can "hack" into the computer and get it to tell the engine to do different and better things to get the result you want.

Will performance tuning void my warranty?

NO. Federal law prohibits a dealer from voiding factory warranty because aftermarket equipment is installed with two exceptions: 1). Adverse effect on emissions systems or 2) Damages to emissions systems.

Is premium fuel a requirement?

NO. Because we custom tailor each program to our customer preferences, premium fuel is only required when the programming requires the use of such.

What are typical horsepower gains?

15-30% horsepower and torque is the normal expected improvement for gasoline engines. Diesel engines can be 50% and higher.

Will my engine run hotter with performance tuning?

NO. Often engines will actually run cooler when properly optimized.

Why are vehicles programmed from the factory to perform with less than their full potential?

Engineers must take several factors into account when they program an engine's computer such as smooth idling, no smoking, clean burning emissions, etc. and therefore, the programming isn't always to it's full potential. That's where we come in.

What will a performance computer or custom calibration do?

  • Control the entire spark curve. Not just at idle or wide open throttle - but thoughout all throttle positions.
  • Control the engine fuel requirement and constantly update the air/fuel ratio.
  • Control shift points. When to shift, when to downshift, when to skip a shift, when to lock up the torque converter. We can give you that shift kit feel.
  • Disable certain factory functions, such as rev limiter and speed limiter. We disable certain trouble codes when exhaust modifications are done. Custom programming changes are made for turbo and supercharged applications as well as engine displacement changes or street rod applications.
  • Better fuel economy. Our diesel performance calibrations are noted for bringing up to 11 MPG better economy and 5-6 MPG on gasoline vehicles.

The Performance Chip Story...

A long time ago, the EPA said to the Big Three, "You've got to make vehicles more fuel efficient." So, instead of failure prone mechanical carburetion, fuel injection systems with exhaust emissions feedback were born. Every electronic fuel injected vehicle on the road today has a "brain" (computer) that controls the amount of fuel an engine uses, the spark timing allowed and when or when not to allow the transmission to shift. Our performance chips and calibrations are rewritten so that your vehicle performs the way it should! Drive the vehicle you thought you bought!
